Mary's sin offering.

If a cure was discovered for a terrible disease, who are the people who would be most interested and excited about it? Surely those who knew they had the particular disease would be wanting to know about the cure!

In that case you should be very interested in the cure that is spoken off in this true story. It is the cure for the most widespread disease known to man. All people have it, although some do not want to admit it. 1*. Some are happy enough with it because they think they can control it!

God calls the disease SIN and tells us in His Word, the Holy Bible, "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God." 2*.

I hope you will be as eager and as successful in finding the cure as the four people mentioned here.

Joseph and Mary had taken the infant Jesus to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord. While they were there they had to offer a sacrifice to God of "a pair of doves or two young pigeons." 3*. This was Mary's sin offering that God required her to make. 4*.

Just then a righteous and devout man called Simeon came into the temple courts. He took the child Jesus in his arms and praised God saying, "Sovereign Lord, as You have promised, now dismiss Your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen Your Salvation." 5*.

Why did Simeon now feel ready to face death? Was it because of his attempts to live a righteous life? No! The Holy Spirit had revealed to him that he would not die before he had seen the Lord's Christ. Now that he had seen the Saviour God had promised, and believed in Him, he had no fear of death. 6*.

"The child's father and mother marvelled at what was said about Jesus". 7*.

Immediately following that an eighty-four year old prophetess called Anna came up to them. She gave thanks to God and spoke about the Child as the one who had been promised as the Redeemer of the people. Anna knew this Child was to be the One who could rescue her from sin - her Redeemer.

What a wonderful Child this Jesus was!

Soon neither His mother, nor anyone else would need to bring their sin offerings to God. Jesus, the Son of God, had become one of us so that He could become the one great sin offering for all time. As "the Lamb of God" He would be able to "take away the sin of the world" by His death for mankind. 8*.

Mary would live to see the horrible sufferings and death of this special Son and it would cause her great sadness - like a sword piercing her own soul. But Jesus' sufferings, death and resurrection would mean eternal life and salvation to her and to all who would trust Him as their Saviour. 9*.

So, in Luke chapter 2, verses 21-38 we see that Joseph, Mary, Simeon and Anna all found faith in Jesus to be the only cure for the curse of sin.

Is YOUR faith and hope in Jesus who came and made the once and for all offering of Himself on the cross for your sins? 10*.
