In Jesus' family!

In today's short story we hear about a very special position in life that only some people qualify for.

When Jesus was here on earth would you like to have been in His family circle? Jesus Christ surprised His listeners by what He had to say about who was in His "family".

What would YOU think the requirements are for a person to be in Jesus' family?

Jesus was busy teaching the people one day. "Now Jesus' mother and brothers came to see Him, but they were not able to get near him because of the crowd. Someone told Him, ‘Your mother and brothers are standing outside wanting to see you.'" 1*.

Those whom they referred to as "Jesus' brothers" were really His "half-brothers". Jesus had been born to Mary while she had still been a virgin. That miraculous pregnancy when God's Son came to the womb of a virgin had been very difficult for both Mary and her boy-friend to believe to be possible. Yet they had each been willing to believe the angelic messages about it. 2*. God tells us in the Bible that after the virgin birth of Jesus, Mary and Joseph had a normal marriage relationship and had several sons and daughters born to them. 3*.

I wonder what you will do today if what Jesus says about His mother and brothers is different from what you think He should have said! I hope you will not be so foolish as to reject or ignore Jesus' words, because it is His teachings that really matter in the end! 4*.

Jesus said, "My mother and brothers are those who hear God's Word and put it into practice." 5*. Jesus pointed to His disciples and said, "Here are My mother and My brothers. For whoever does the will of My Father in Heaven is My brother and sister and mother." 6*.

Jesus wanted everyone to know that the most important relationship with Him was not that of belonging to a particular human family line. Jesus had come from Heaven in order to make it possible for many many people to be able to become part of a far more wonderful family - the family of God. 7*. God the Father had sent His Son to be the Saviour of the world: His name "Jesus" means "Saviour". 8*. "To all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become the children of God.." 9*.

Maybe you have been hoping that you would qualify as one of God's family in some other way! Have you been thinking your good religious education and your many religious exercises should make you acceptable? Or have you been hoping Mary could somehow help you? Here you see that Jesus didn't provide any extraordinary privilege or special access to Mary or to her very own family!

You see, there is only one way to have that special privilege before God of being accepted by Him and treated as His child. You must do the will of God the Father - you must trust the Son He sent, Jesus Christ, to be your only Priest and Saviour. No other priest or person can bring you to God. 10*.

So, be sure of a place with Jesus in God's family, check these words of Jesus in Luke chapter 8, verses19-21.
