People Jesus needs!

If Jesus is God - and He is! 1*. - then we know there could be nothing He needs. The true God is not dependent on any person or thing. But in today's story we find Jesus saying there was something He needed!

One day as Jesus was approaching Jerusalem He said to two of His disciples, 'Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here... The Lord needs it." 2*.

Jesus had often gone into Jerusalem without needing a colt to get Him there; why did He need one this time? Why did the great Creator 3*. need something?

Throughout history God, in His love for us, made us promises that He would be obliged to keep. The Almighty God didn't have to tie Himself down by promising He would do things for us - but He did! You can find all these promises or covenants with mankind recorded in the Holy Bible.

For example; in order to become the Saviour of mankind, He promised He would become a human being "born of a woman". 4*. You see, we needed Him to become man and be willing to be the substitute who could be punished for our sins. God, in His amazing grace, planned all this for us and promised to do all that was necessary to become our Saviour. 5*.

Truly the Holy Bible is the God inspired book it claims to be - the writers were able to foretell many detailed events hundreds of years before they happened! 6*.

And truly Jesus is God. He alone fulfilled all those promises that had been made about the Messiah who was to come. 6*.

That is why He needed the colt! Over 500 years earlier He had promised He would one day make a triumphant entrance into Jerusalem "riding on the foal of a donkey." 7*. He even knew in advance where there would be a donkey available at the exact time He would need it! And He knew that as He would go into Jerusalem this time something special would happen.

"They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. As He went along, people spread their cloaks on the road. When He came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: 'Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!' 'Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!" 8*.

Have you acknowledged Jesus as the promised Saviour and King God sent from Heaven for you? Have you, in faith, shown your trust in Him alone as your Saviour by turning away from any other person or thing that you once hoped could help to make you acceptable to God? There is Salvation in no one else but Jesus! 9*.

All those who trust Jesus as their only Saviour and Leader are people Jesus needs as part of His wonderful plan of Salvation. 10*.

Read in Luke chapter 19, verses 28-38 about the little donkey colt that Jesus needed.
