Jesus' food
warning!
Today we are made very conscious of the health value of food.
Often there is nutritional information on the food wrappings.
Governments, doctors and concerned people speak up and warn of the
dangers of taking certain things. For example, everyone is aware of
the damage alcohol, smoking and drugs can cause to our bodies.
In this story we hear Jesus' food
warning to His followers!
"Be careful," Jesus said to them. "Be on your guard against the
yeast of the Pharisees." 1*.
Did He mean the Pharisees used different yeast in their bread than
other people? No! But there was great danger in the religious
teachings the Pharisees "fed" people with! 2*.
People who were being fed on their false teachings could be made to
feel good, although their sins were still destroying their lives
and souls! We could compare this to a doctor giving strong pain
killers to a person suffering from a deadly disease. The pain
killers might make the person feel better but the disease would
only be getting worse!
Jesus had some frightening news for those who felt good because of
their religious practices. "What you have said in the dark will be
heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in
the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs." 3*.
All those sins people thought they had whispered away in auricular
confession will one day be made known publicly! They are not
forgotten nor forgiven! 4*.
You see how dangerous it is to be fed on the teaching of confession
for the forgiveness of sins? It is only by faith in Jesus as your
Saviour, and confession of your sins TO GOD that your sins will be
completely forgiven and forgotten. 5*. Then you really can feel good because
you really are made good by Jesus because of your faith in
Him! 6*.
But won't those religious leaders be very angry with those who
would dare to go against their teachings? Yes! But Jesus had this
to say: "I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill
the body and after that can do no more. But .. Fear Him who, after
the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I
tell you, fear Him." 7*. It is God we must be careful not
to disobey and offend! 8*.
God loves you very much; and He cares about you. "Indeed, the very
hairs of your head are all numbered" by God! 9*. All those who trust God's love and
allow themselves to be fed on the message of His Word, the Holy
Bible, will know not to put their trust in man to hear and forgive
their sins. God has made it very clear in His Word that only Jesus,
His Son, "is able to save completely those who come to God through
Him, because He always lives to intercede for them." 10*.
Those who trust in Jesus alone for Salvation do not need to be
afraid or ashamed to tell and to warn those who are fed on false
teachings that Jesus is the only way to God.
Make sure you feed on the truth of God's Word. Read Jesus' food warning in Luke chapter 11, verses
1-12.
