Wisdom of Mary!

Which of the two women in this story are you like - the one who did good, or the one who did "better"?

"As Jesus and His disciples were on their way, He came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to Him."

What Martha was doing was good! It is good to be busy working and being able to help others in need. Maybe you like helping others too, but did you know that you can be so busy doing good that you miss out on something "better"!

"Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made," 1*. and she was becoming exhausted and annoyed. Her sister Mary was there in the house too, but she was not helping Martha at all! There was something else Mary wanted to do first; something she thought was most important, and it was something that would help her later to cope with all her problems. "She .. sat at the Lord's feet listening to what He said." 2*.

Mary wanted to listen to the wonderful teachings and advice of her Lord, Jesus Christ. She likely realised that once she would get involved in all the preparations then she would not find the time to stop and listen to her Master's words. So Mary was taking the time now to hear and learn what Jesus wanted to teach her.

Sometimes I can get so busy doing things that are good in themselves that I miss finding the time to stop and listen to what Jesus wants to say to me from His Word, the Holy Bible. I need the wisdom of Mary who took time to listen to God speaking to her BEFORE she started her busy preparations that day.

I wonder have YOU sat down with the Holy Bible TODAY, just to read it and find out what God would want to say to you for today? His Word brings to you the best of advice and guidance for daily living. 3*. Through it He can speak forgiveness, and peace, and joy into the life that will trust in Jesus as Priest and Leader. 4*.

Most people neglect the Bible and so miss the Lord's words of assurance and comfort and hope. Then, like Martha, they rush about every day getting upset and defeated by life's pressures and problems. If only they would take time each day to listen to God's advice, and then obey it, and trust His promises, how different their lives would be! 5*.

Troubled Martha came to Jesus and said, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"

"Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." 6*.

If you are a true Christian you will do better if you start each day by taking time to listen to what God will say to you through His Word. 7*. Then, as you go about your daily work trying to follow the instructions of God's Word, you will be blessed in all that you do. 8*.

I hope you will have the wisdom of Mary that we read about in Luke chapter 10, verses 38-42.
