Really knowing God!

Who would you go to find out about these different things?

About disease? …You would go to the doctor.

About laws? … You would go to the lawyer.

About a religion? …You would go to the priest or teacher of that religion.

But if you wanted to really know God who would you go to? There are so many people who have so many different opinions!

Did you know that Jesus makes it very clear who we must turn to if we really want to know God? Let us listen in to Jesus in our story today. He is "full of joy through the holy Spirit," as He is talking with His father in Heaven.

"I praise You, Father, Lord of Heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was Your good pleasure." 1*.

Who did Jesus say were the people to whom the Lord of Heaven and earth had made Himself known? Not the highly educated in knowledge or religion, but those who were like "little children" - having a simple faith and trust and love. 2*.

The wise and learned, although they can know about God, often miss really knowing God and becoming His children. 3*. Remember, even the Devil knows all about God! 4*.

What is the secret of "little children" coming to know God and becoming God's very own children? 5*. Jesus said that knowing God is something that only God in His own good pleasure can reveal to you. Then Jesus explained how God has chosen to do that!

In His prayer He said, "All things have been committed to Me by My Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him."

He turned to those who trusted in Him and said: "Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it." 6*.

You see, really knowing God is much more that knowing about Him. Jesus Christ came in order to make God known to sinful mankind. 7*.

For sinful mankind to really know the Holy and Just God of Heaven and become His children requires the work of a very special go-between - a mediator who could also deal with our sins! JESUS is that Mediator!

"There is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all men." 8*.

By coming to trust Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Priest you have found the Way to God. When you know Jesus as YOUR Saviour, then you know the Father as well. He has become YOUR Father! 9*.

Are you one of those ones whom Jesus speaks of as "blessed " in Luke's Gospel chapter 10, verses 21-24? Blessed because you have come to know and love and trust the Father through Jesus the Son.
