Test your priest!

Qualifications for jobs seem to be getting higher all the time. Some jobs are even being replaced with machines!

Let us hear of a job that will never be replaced by anything else, and the qualifications for it will never again be changed!

Even if you are not interested in the job it is very important that everyone should know the qualifications. We need to be able to recognise the qualified person or we will be very easily fooled by some of those out to deceive us. 1*.

"Once when Jesus was praying in private and His disciples were with Him, He asked them, ‘Who do the crowds say that I am?'

"They replied, Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life.'" 2*.

What a terrible mistake the crowds were making in comparing Jesus, the Son of God, to ordinary men of faith. They were not recognising the special One whom God had sent to be the Saviour of the world. 3*.

The same mistake is being made by very many people today. They compare Jesus to other religious leaders and fail to recognise that He is unique - irreplaceable!

Jesus asked His disciples that day, "Who do you say that I am?" Peter said, "The Christ of God." 4*.

To the disciples who knew and trusted Jesus He was not comparable to any man, but only to God! Jesus was "the Christ" - The One God had promised to send who would be "God with us," 5*. and the "Saviour of the world." 3*.

But if the disciples were to have said publicly at that time that Jesus was the Messiah God had promised they would have been stoned to death for blasphemy! 6*. So, "Jesus strictly warned them not to tell this to anyone. And he said, ‘The Son of man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and He must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.'" 7*.

Once Jesus would die and rise again people would have no excuse for not believing that He was indeed the Messiah; the Saviour God wants us to trust and obey. 8*.

In spite of all this many people today still want to believe that other priests can take Jesus place. Surely Jesus' death and resurrection identify Him clearly as the one and only "Christ of God" - the One who alone can save and keep us from sin. 9*.

You must test your priest and make sure he is the One who is acceptable to God. Is your priest the One whom God sent from Heaven and who died for your sins and rose again? Don't confuse Him with those who claim to take His place. No one can take Jesus place! 1*. God says: "Because Jesus lives forever, He has a permanent Priesthood. Therefore He is able to save completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them. Such a High Priest meets our needs.." 10*.

Is Jesus the One you are trusting in fully to meet YOUR needs? In faith you can turn to Him from others right now.

Read of the disciples confidence in who Jesus was in Luke's Gospel chapter 9, verses 18-22.
