Your worst enemy!

Who or what is YOUR worst enemy? If it is the enemy I'm thinking of then you will not be able to avoid coming face to face with it! Some people are "held in slavery" by their fear of this enemy, "all their lives" 1*. and it will be "the last enemy to be destroyed" 2*. What enemy do you think this is? It is DEATH!

In this true story we meet a woman who has had some close encounters with death and who knows how great an enemy it is, but, like her, you can be set free from the awful terror of death! 3*.

As Jesus approached the town of Nain, "a dead person was being carried out - the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. When the Lord saw her, His heart went out to her and He said, `Don't cry.'" 4*.

How could Jesus say this to a woman who had been robbed of both her husband and her only son by that terrible enemy called DEATH?

Jesus had the AUTHORITY to speak these words of comfort to this woman. 5*. He had come from Heaven to earth "so that by HIS death He might destroy the power of death - that is, the Devil - and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death." 1*.

Maybe DEATH has struck near you, or maybe the fear of DEATH is causing you to be troubled. Jesus can bring peace and comfort to all who will put their trust in Him!

Jesus "went up and touched the coffin, and those carrying it stood still." 6*. He spoke with authority to the dead man as if he was speaking to one who was alive and well!

"`Young man, I say to you, get up!' The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother." 6*. Jesus truly had the authority to replace tears with joy even when faced with death!

"God has come to help His people," 7*. the people said.

How right they were! Jesus, the Son of God, has appeared "to destroy death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel." 8*.

The "Gospel of God" that Jesus brought to mankind is a message about life - ETERNAL LIFE! Jesus gives assurance to all who trust His authority and who will agree that He is God the Son, sent from Heaven to be the only Saviour. 9*. Those who trust in Jesus are given ETERNAL LIFE and no longer have to live with the fear of death and judgment, because their peace has been made with God already.

What a different outlook on death this gives to the one who is truly trusting in Christ. Just KNOWING that after life on earth finishes, then Life begins in Heaven with Christ, which is far better! 10*.

Read of Jesus' authority even over death in Luke gospel, chapter 7, verses 11-17.
