Blessed by God!

In this short story you will discover how you must become like the Virgin Mary if you are going to be blessed by God and acceptable to Him.

If you were to receive an ordinary looking parcel, and then discover it contained an extra-ordinary gift, wouldn't you be very surprised and delighted?

Something like that happened to Elizabeth when, although she was quite old, she was expecting her first baby. One day her young unmarried cousin came to visit her. Elizabeth soon discovered that this ordinary person contained an extra-ordinary gift!

When Elizabeth was greeted by this young woman, "the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit." 1*.

Her cousin, Mary, had come to tell her that God was about to send His own Son into the world to be the "Saviour" of the world. 2*. As if that wasn't hard enough to believe; Mary went on to tell that she was chosen to be the mother! Mary was pregnant with her first baby which did not come from any human father! Her child was to be the Son of God!

What would Elizabeth have to say about this story of Mary's? A virgin going to have a baby!

"In a loud voice she exclaimed: "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the Child you will bear." 3*.

God must have prepared Elizabeth to believe Mary's story to be absolutely true, and she immediately spoke of the unborn Child as being her Lord.

Mary knew her story would be hard for people to believe, but she knew it to be true, so she did not keep it to herself.

Elizabeth replied, "Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished." 4*. Mary was blessed by God because she believed what God told her about the coming of Jesus the Saviour.

You also will be blessed of God if you will believe all He says to you about Jesus. God says Jesus is the only Priest and Saviour that can forgive your sins! 5*. Will you believe that? Mary did! She worshipped the infant Lord Jesus before He was even born, saying, "My soul praises the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour." 6*.

God must be the same to you as He was to Mary if you want to be blessed of God. Mary NEEDED God as her Saviour, and she was willing to believe that Jesus was that Saviour.

And what was Mary to God? Not a "wife", nor a "queen", nor an "equal"; she said herself that she was a humble undeserving "servant", and she was only blessed by God because she believed what God said He could do.

Will you claim Jesus the Saviour as your Life, your Sweetness and your Hope? 7*. Will you trust Him alone as your Most Gracious Advocate? 8*. Mary certainly did, and you must do the same to be blessed of God.

Read of Mary's faith in Luke chapter 1, verses 39-56.
