Devil's old trick!

Have you ever wondered why there are so many different religions that all use the Holy Bible? You would think that everyone who uses the Bible should agree in what they believe.

The Holy Bible is that very special book that was given to us by God. 1*. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, taught that we are to believe everything it says. 2*.

It is the Holy Bible that tells us all we need to know about God.

To help us know why there are so many different religions all claiming to teach what the Bible says, let us hear this true story.

One day the Devil "led Jesus to Jerusalem and had Him stand on the highest point of the temple." He was wanting to tempt Jesus to commit suicide!

"If you are the Son of God," he said "throw yourself down from here." 3*.

Surely Jesus wouldn't even think of doing such a foolish thing as that! But the Devil then said something to make it sound like a worthwhile thing to do. He quoted a promise of God from the Bible: "He will command His angels ..to .. lift you up in their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone." 4*.

The Devil wanted Jesus to think that this meant God would protect Him if He foolishly jumped off the temple!

The Devil's old trick is to get you to think that doing the wrong and foolish things he wants you to do will be good for you! 5*. To fool you into thinking like that the Devil may remind you of something God says in the Bible that seems to agree with what he is saying.

The best way to be sure you really know what God thinks and wants is by reading from the Holy Bible day by day. If you don't get to know what God really says in the Bible then you can easily get into trouble. The Devil will get false religions to come along and quote verses from the Bible to you that seem to support their wrong teachings. In this way many are fooled into wrong beliefs.

You see, God does teach us in the Bible that "He will command His angels concerning you", if you are trusting in Him. But from the rest of the Bible it is clear that what God wants to protect and keep you from is falling into sin! That does NOT mean you can foolishly step out in front of a bus, or jump of the roof of a temple, and you will not get hurt! Attempted suicide is NEVER God's intention for anyone!

Jesus was not fooled by the Devil's use of the Bible. He answered, "(The Scriptures) says, "Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'" 6*.

Although Jesus could not be tempted by evil, you and I have often been! But something else you discover over and over again in God's Word is this: God wants to pick you up from your sinful life and forgive your sins, IF ONLY YOU WILL TRUST IN HIS SON JESUS AS YOUR ONLY PRIEST AND SAVIOUR.

Will YOU trust Jesus to save you from sin today and believe that "He is able to keep you from falling", 7*. - from falling into sin.

Read how Jesus was kept from falling in Luke's Gospel chapter 4, verses 9-13.
