Suppose you had some long-term illness that could not be cured. Then one day in the supermarket you overhear some people saying a cure had been discovered; you might not be too convinced. Then if a friend tells you the same thing, perhaps you'll begin to hope it might be true. If the doctor then assured you it was true, that might remove your doubts and you would be eager to get the cure.
It is important to have reliable information about medicines to heal your body, otherwise you can harm yourself. BuL it is much more important to have reliable information about your soul - how to be made right with God, and be made able to live to please Him. Very religious people often discover their religion is not making them truly love God, nor is it making them delight to live pleasing to Him. Yet, instead of checking their religious information they continue to believe in it, although it is clearly not helping them!
God has left us without any excuse for not knowing His will and being able to do it. He didn't just speak to the world through prophets and preachers "from the earth"; He sent His one and only Son from Heaven,"full of grace and truth". (John 1:14. Hebrews 1:1-2) "The One who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The One who comes from Heaven is above all. He testifies to what He has seen and heard." (verses 31-32.)
Many teachers "from the earth" today claim we must trust and obey them. But Jesus from Heaven is above all, and we owe Him, who is our Creator, our full trust and obedience; "but no one accepts His testimony." (verse 32.)
The people did not accept His testimony when He lived among them (John1:11-13.), and today people still won't accept His message.
Jesus openly claimed to be the only One who could save mankind and bring us to God. (Matthew 1:21-23.. John 14:6.) Jesus is the only mediator between God and man. (1st Timothy 2:5-6. 1st Peter 3:18) So, everytime a person who wants to be forgiven goes to someone else to get forgiveness, or prays to someone else hoping God will hear and answer them, that person must be thinking "God's a liar!" (1st John 5:10.)
They are supposing that although Jesus said He is the ONLY WAY TO GOD, that still they can get to God through others, such as priests, and saints, and gurus! They are believing the teachings of men "from the earth". I hope you will rather believe the message of the Son of God who was sent down from Heaven.
"The man who has accepted it has certified that GOD IS TRUTHFUL. For [Jesus] whom God has sent speaks the words of God; to Him God gives the Spirit without limit. The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in His hands." (verses 34-35.)
Don't dare think "God's a liar!", and that His Son is not the only way to God. (1st John 5:10. & Acts 13:38-46.) "It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God"! (Hebrews 10:26-31. John 3:18-19.) "Whoever believes in the Son has Eternal Life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see Life, for God's wrath remains on him." (verse 36.)
