Quench that thirst.

Are you having any more success than the woman in our story today? She was obviously searching for love, and joy, and peace in life, but was disappointed, dissatisfied and frustrated. If you listen to her story you will discover, with her, that there is a way to find "life", and "have it to the full". (John 10:10.)

Once when Jesus was on a journey north through Samaria with His disciples He was exhausted in the mid-day heat. Tired and thirsty He sat down beside a well.

"When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, 'Will you give Me a drink?' (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.) The Samaritan woman said to Him, 'You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can You ask me for a drink?' (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.)

"Jesus answered her, 'If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water.'
"'Sir,' the woman said, 'You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can You get this living water?..'
" Jesus answered, 'Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.'
"The woman said to Him, 'Sir, give me this water so that I won't get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.'" (verses 7-15.)

But she hadn't listened carefully. Jesus was not offering her something to drink that would keep her from ever dying with thirst. He was offering her something to keep her from dying with sin and having to go into Hell forever! He was offering her "Eternal Life". (John 3:16-18.)

Are you interested in Jesus' offer? - Something to keep you from going on living an unsatisfying, sin-thirsty life that will bring you down to Hell! (1st Corinthians 6:9-10. Matthew 7:21-23.)

Jesus told the woman, "Go, call your husband and come back." "I have no husband," she replied.
Jesus said to her, "You are right when you say you have no husband. The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you have now is not your husband..." (verses 16-18.)

What an unsatisfying, sinful life this woman was living. Jesus was offering her something much, much better, to be had by faith in Him. A new life (2nd Corinthians 5:17.), - the Life of God's Spirit within her - "like a spring of water welling up to Eternal Life." Here is how this woman - and you and I, - can quench that thirst for sin, and have it replaced with a satisfying life having love, joy and peace. (Romans 5:1-11.)

Right now, bring your sinful life to Jesus, in faith, and want Him to exchange it for Eternal Life. Jesus is ready to forgive you, and put His Spirit within you to enable you to live a life of love, and joy, and peace, (Galatians 5:19-25. Psalm 51:10.) and you will be ready to live forever in Heaven. (John 6:37-40.)

Don't miss our next "talk" as we hear about this woman's response. But, don't you wait until then to respond to Jesus' offer of Eternal Life. Put your trust in Him right now to forgive your sins and save you.
