Letting the Bible explain
what the the Bible says!
Jesus said:
"I am the way and the truth and the life.
No-one comes to the Father except through me."
John 14:6.
JESUS - THE WAY: we must believe Him!
JESUS - THE TRUTH: we must obey Him!
JESUS - THE LIFE: we must trust in Him!

"Here is my wife."
"This is my wife, Joan."
Have I just given you my wife?
Of course not!
Then why did I say, "Here is my wife.." "This is my wife"?
Surely you knew that it was just a photo that is to remind you of my wife.
Now come with me to the Last Supper the Lord Jesus had with His disciples before He was taken from them to be killed. Didn't He say "This is My body"?
Here is what the Bible says happened:
"The Lord Jesus, on the night He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, 'This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.'
In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of Me.'"
At that Last Supper the disciples would have clearly seen that Jesus was NOT giving them His body - only a piece of bread TO REMIND THEM OF HIS BODY. After they had all eaten what He gave them Jesus was still there and they had not eaten any part of His body!!!
It was bread they had eaten.
Listen to Jesus' own words following on from that,
"For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes."
1st Corinthians 11:26.
You shouldn't find what Jesus said there any more difficult to understand than what I meant when I said, "This is my wife."
The bread was to be a symbol to Jesus' followers that would remind them of His body, and it would be a way to proclaim or show that they believed Jesus had given His body on that cross FOR THEM. Notice too, that they were told by Jesus to continue to have this supper together until He would return.
It is obvious that He did not intend to return in the bread! They were told to continue to use the bread and wine until He would return.
Jesus hasn't returned yet! But the signs are that He will be returning very soon. For more about Jesus' soon return click
