Guide to Truth!

If the Lord Jesus Christ was to be preaching in the local community hall tonight would you want to go along to hear Him? If you did, would it be because you wanted to make sure you believed the truth, or would it just be to find out if you wanted to agree with what He had to say?

When Jesus was here on earth most people would NOT accept Him as a Teacher who had come from God. Few people were willing to believe His teachings, although the wonderful proofs that He truly was God were very clear. For example, His miraculous virgin birth, and His miraculous powers to not only heal, but even to raise the dead, had all been foretold by the prophets hundreds of years earlier.

Today we are not able to meet with the great Teacher, as His early followers did, but we are not at a disadvantage to them! Jesus did NOT mean anyone to be left at the mercy of religious leaders; men who might seek control over our lives in their lust for power, or pleasure, or money. Jesus left us in no doubt about who we should trust as our Guide to Truth. He told His followers, “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth.” (verse 12.) So, their Teacher and Guide when Jesus would go away was NOT to be a man, or a church, or a religion; these can all change from one generation to another and add new teachings and ideas.

TRUTH does not change, and must not be changed! So, it is most important for us to rediscover the truth that Jesus taught. The Spirit of Truth whom Jesus sent to take His place, has had those teachings carefully and truthfully recorded for us in the HOLY BIBLE. Today He is ready and willing to make known to you and me the things Jesus taught, if we will seriously seek to know them from the Holy Bible.

Jesus told us that the Spirit “will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come. He will bring glory to Me by taking from what is Mine and making it known to you. All that belongs to the Father is Mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is Mine and make it known to you.” (verses 12-15.)

So, the Holy Spirit is NOT going to teach us some new and different religion to that which the Father has sent Jesus to teach. It is easy to recognise the person who is truly taught by the Holy Spirit; everything that person believes will be clearly seen to be in complete agreement with the Holy Bible, which is the Word of the Holy Spirit of God.

The Holy Spirit will of course lead us to put our trust in Jesus alone as our Priest and Saviour. He will then teach us to love and serve Christ as we “grow in the grace and knowledge” of Him through the Bible.

Read about Jesus promising to send us the Guide to Truth in John chapter 16, verses 12-15.
