People are "gods"!

Did you know that God says in His own Word, the Holy Bible that people are "gods"? (Psalm 82:6.)

Judges, presidents, kings, and priests could be thought of as being like "gods" because of their power over people! Their decisions affect countries as well as people's lives!

But these "gods" - these people in high authority - are not to be thought of as being equal with the one true God. It is obvious that they do not have the almighty power of the Creator God! And it is quite clear that they will have to answer to the one true God for all they say and do! (Psalm 82:1-8. Romans 14:10-13.) How terrible it will be on that day for those "gods" who have misused their power and authority! (Hebrews 10:30-31.)

When Jesus came He reminded the people of what God had said. "Is it not written in your law, 'I have said you are gods'?" Then Jesus went on to say, "If He called them 'gods', to whom the Word of God came - and the Scriptures cannot be broken - what about the One whom the Father set apart as His very own, and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse Me of blasphemy because I said, 'I am God's Son'?" (verses 34¬ - 36.)

The people had taken up stones to stone Jesus because He had claimed to be God. But Jesus had not only compared Himself to God, He had demonstrated that He is the great Creator God by the miracles He had done!

"Do not believe Me," He said, "unless I do what the Father does. But if I do it, even though you do not believe Me - believe the miracles, that you may learn and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father." (verses 37-38.)

It is a great insult to God, to think that His Son is less than God (Philippians 2:6-11. Hebrews 1:1-12.), or to think that another person can take the place that God has appointed for His Son. "God exalted Jesus to His own right hand as Prince and Saviour.." (Acts 5:31) Jesus then is our most gracious Advocate – He is in fact the only Advocate that the sinner can have with the Holy God. (1st John 2:1-3. 1st Timothy 2:5-6.)

What about you? Will you reject Jesus' claim that He is God, and can do for you what no other priest or no sacrament can do? (Acts 4:12.) Put your trust in Him today!

Read for yourself in John's Gospel chapter 10, verses 34-42 how Jesus clearly proved Himself to be God the Saviour - the One who could take away the sin of the world, just as John the Baptist had said. (verse 42. John 1:29.)
