I am always amazed at how a tiny seed can know what plant to produce. It may not always be easy for you or me to identify a seed. If you did not know what a particular seed was, you might plant it and wait until it grew, then you would know what the seed had been. There can never be the mistake of a seed producing something different than what it should. The fruit reproduced is always the proof of what the seed really was.
Here is a true story of people who would not believe that the "fruit" was the proof of the kind of seed it had come from! They were making a very serious mistake; and it is one you could easily make too, so beware!
The Lord Jesus Christ had become very unpopular with the Jews because He had called God "His own Father, making Himself equal with God. Jesus gave them this answer: 'I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by Himself; He can do only what he sees His Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.'"(verses 18-19.)
Just as the seed of any plant will only reproduce its own kind of plant, so Jesus, the "Son of the Most High", could be seen to reproduce His Father's power, His perfection, His works, His love and His purpose.
Although the Jews could see the greatness of Jesus in His life and His works yet they would not accept that "fruit" as proof that He had truly come from God, and was God. (John 1:1-4 & 14. 6:38-42.)
Jesus said to them,"Just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom He is pleased to give it. Moreover, the Father judges no-one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son, that all may honour the Son just as they honour the Father. He who does not honour the Son does not honour the Father, who sent Him." (verses 21-23.)
If these people could not accept that Jesus was "the Son of the Living God" (Matthew 16:15-17.) then they were dishonouring God the Father who had "sent His Son as the Saviour of the world." (1st John 4:14.) And they were refusing the gift of ETERNAL LIFE that only Jesus could give them. (Acts 13:38-40 & 46.)
"I tell you the truth," Jesus said, "whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has ETERNAL LIFE and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to Life." (verse 24.)
Are YOU going to honour God today by trusting in the greatness and love of God the Son. God has given to His Son, Jesus Christ - and only to Him - the authority and the power to give ETERNAL LIFE "to whom He is pleased to give it." (verse 21.)
If you want to have ETERNAL LIFE - so that you will be ready to go to live with God, and escape God's judgment of Hell - then you must believe in Jesus whom God sent into the world as our only hope of salvation. (Acts 4:12.) If you choose to turn to some other priest you not only dishonour God but you will lose your own soul. (John 3;16-19 & 36.)
