Jesus' favourite food.

I don't think it would be difficult to find out what your favourite food is. I would just have to watch you when you had a wide selection of food to choose from. You would pass by lots of nice food to select your special favourite.

In today's story we discover what food was very special to the Lord Jesus - and it wasn't bread, or fish, or meat, or water. If you are a true follower of the Lord Jesus this same food will become very special to you too.

Jesus had been tired, hungry and thirsty when his disciples had left Him sitting by the well, while they went into the town of Sychar to buy some food. (John 4:6-7.)

When the disciples returned they "were surprised to find Him talking with a (Samaritan) woman. But no one asked,'What do you want?' or 'Why are you talking with her?'" (verse 27.)

Jesus had asked her for a drink when she had come along with her water jar. She had been reluctant to have anything to do with this Jew. But soon Jesus was speaking to her of her great need. He told her that He could meet the great need of her life. (John 4:13-14.)

When this woman discovered that she was speaking to the Messiah whom God had sent as the Saviour of the world, she left her water jar and went back to the town to tell others about Christ. (John 4:25-30.)

"Meanwhile His disciples urged Him, 'Rabbi, eat something.' But He said to them, 'I have food to eat that you know nothing about.'
"Then His disciples said to each other, 'Could someone have brought Him food?'
My food,' said Jesus, 'is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work.'" (verses 31-34.)

Here we see that Jesus' favourite food - the "food" that he found most satisfying - was just being involved in the work His Father had sent Him to do. He had come as the Saviour of the world, and His greatest delight was to bring the news of salvation to people.(John 6:38-40.)

For all those who have trusted in Jesus as their Lord and Saviour here is "food" that will make them strong and healthy in their Christian lives: they should delight in making the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ known to many.(Matthew 28:18-20. Mark 16:15-16.)

A farmer will know there is a right time to go out for his harvest; and the Christian must know the time he/she should go out telling the good news of Salvation. Jesus said, "Do you not say, 'Four months more and then the harvest'? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. Even now the reaper draws his wages, even now he harvests the crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together..." (verses 35-36.)

"NOW" is always the right time for a Christian to be living and witnessing for the Kingdom of God. (2nd Corinthians 5:18- 6:2.)

Every Christian should be involved in some way to make known the wonderful message that Jesus Christ is the only Priest and Saviour for mankind. (Acts 4:12.) By doing so he/she will be sharing in the "hard work" of "sowing" or the great joy of "reaping" for the harvest of people for eternal life. (verses37-38.)

Read of Jesus' favourite "food", and of Him sending out His disciples to find it satisfying for them too in John's Gospel chapter 4, verses 27-38.
