Different religions unite!

Here is a strange but true story of how different religions, that were opposed to each other in their teachings, united to work together. Sad to say, the same thing is happening today! Maybe you are thinking it would be good for religions to work together more, but let us find out what made these different religions unite.

The apostles Paul and Barnabas were travelling around spreading the good news about the Lord Jesus, the Saviour God had given for mankind. (Acts 13:27-39.)

They arrived at a place called Iconium. “There they spoke so effectively that a great number of Jews and Greeks believed.” (verse 1.) But these were NOT different religions uniting - these were people turning from different religious backgrounds to a new faith. These were uniting, because they now shared a common faith in Jesus Christ as their Saviour. (2ndCorinthians 5:17. Galatians 3:24-28.)

“But the Jews who refused to believe, stirred up the other Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers.” (verse 2.) Here we discover what it was that made these different religions unite.. These people, having very different religious beliefs, were willing to work together in a religious struggle, against the true Christian faith! They were determined to make life difficult for the apostles and the new believers.

Jesus has clearly taught that His true followers are to expect such opposition from religion. (2ndTimothy 3:12. John 15:18-21.)

“Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, speaking boldly for the Lord, who confirmed the message of His grace by enabling them to perform signs and wonders. The people of the city were divided; some sided with the Jews, others with the apostles.” (verses 3-4.)

You see, although there are many religions in the world today it all comes down to there being only two different sides; and you are on one side or the other. There is the side that agrees with the gospel of God as recorded in the Holy Bible, and there is the side of the many religions that go against the good news that Jesus Christ is the only Priest and Saviour. (Acts 4:12. 10:42-43. 1stTimothy 2:5-6.) Which side are you on?

“There was a plot afoot among both Gentiles and Jews, together with their leaders, to mistreat them and stone them.” (verse 5.) Here's why those different religions united - It was those opposing the gospel displaying the evil and wickedness of their hearts.

Paul and the disciples moved on to “Lystra and Derbe and to the surrounding country, where they continued to preach the gospel.” (verses 6-7.)

Have you been converted to become one of those who has true faith in Jesus Christ? Or are you content to be on the side that refuses, and often opposes, the true Gospel that teaches that only Jesus can save? Your reaction to this “Good News” should help you to know which side you are on!

Read Acts chapter 14, verses 1-7.
