“Field of blood.”

Many people are remembered long after they die by the works they produced in their lifetime. Today we will find out why God wants you and me to remember the man whose money was used to purchase his own "field of blood":

One thousand years before this thing happened God had already talked about it. God “the Holy Spirit, speaking through David, made a prediction about Judas, who was the guide for those who arrested Jesus.” (verse 16.)

For years Jesus had been a close friend to Judas. Wasn’t Judas a very evil man to have rejected his Friend Jesus and betrayed Him unto death, just for the sake of a handful of money?

Today Jesus wants to be the Friend and Saviour of each one of us. Yet let us see how many people still are rejecting Jesus, and it seems that His shameful treatment and horrible death mean very little to them.

For example:— the person who is content to use Jesus’ name as a curse word. (Exodus 20:7.) — and those who know that Jesus died for their sins but still say they have to try to pay for their own sins: (Galatians 2:16) — or those who insist they have to go to someone else other than Jesus to be made right with God: (1stPeter 3:18.)

These are refusing and insulting the One whom God sent to be “the Saviour the world” (1stJohn 4:13-14.). just as much as Judas did!

The Scriptures came true that had told that the money Judas earned betraying Jesus would be used to buy a field; that very field “where he fell to his death” as he committed suicide. (verse 18. Matthew 27:3-10.) It became known as the "field of blood"

What a terrible reminder for us that “it is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God”. (Hebrews 10:26-31.) — and God’s judgment will continue for ever and ever. (Revelation 20:10-15.)

God has clearly warned that terrible judgment will come to all those who reject Jesus Christ as their Priest and Saviour. (John 3:18, 36.)

But the work of God was not to be held up or restricted because of Judas. The Scriptures had also said; “May someone else take his place of service.” (verse 20.) So, the true followers of Jesus agreed to this: The one to replace Judas “must be one of the men who were in our group during the whole time that the Lord Jesus travelled about with us.. until the day Jesus was taken up from us to Heaven.”

Two men were proposed, “and the one chosen was Matthias, who was added to the group of eleven apostles.” (verses 23-26.)

It is most serious to refuse or to insult the Lord Jesus Christ whom God sent to be the Saviour of the world. You would be bringing upon yourself the awful judgment of God. Please heed God’s warning. (Ezekiel 33:11.) Why is this story of the "field of blood" recorded by God? It’s a warning to not be like Judas.
