You might think that the longer mankind lives on this earth, the wiser people would become. But thousands of years ago, God had it recorded for us in the Holy Bible that people would continue to do foolish things, and even increase in their folly, as Jesus’ return drew near. (Romans 1:28-32. Matthew 24:9-14.) Today people are deliberately doing things God warns us against in His Word, the Holy Bible; things that not only affect the people involved, but also innocent lives.
For example: Those who get involved with drugs and the occult, (Revelation 9:20-21. Deuteronomy 18:9-12.), or those who use images and statues in worship, (Romans 1:21-25. Exodus 20:4-6.), or those who abuse or misuse the special relationship that God intended only for a man and woman to have in their marriage. (Romans 1:26-32. Hebrews 13:4.)
It’s like a self-inflicted epidemic bringing torment to body, mind and soul, now and into eternity! It comes as the result of people ignoring God’s instructions in His Word, the Holy Bible! (Matthew 7:26-27. Romans 1:18-32.)
God warns us over and over again about a further self-inflicted epidemic. One that is worldwide, and it is very possible that YOU could be, or have been contaminated by this!
Jesus warned people of this danger - and so had God’s prophets hundreds of years before that. The apostle Paul here repeats the same warning. He was under house arrest in Rome because of his faith, and obedience to Jesus Christ. A large number of Jews came to the place where Paul was being kept; they wanted to hear his message about the Kingdom of God.
Using the Scriptures, he tried to convince them that Jesus Christ was the Saviour God had given for mankind. (verse 23. Acts 13:32-41.)
“Some were convinced by what he said, but others would not believe.” (verse 24.) Paul saw that they were responding just like the people Isaiah had spoken to over 700 years earlier; and we see people today still deliberately contaminated the same way! Paul said, “You will be ever hearing, but never understanding. You will be ever seeing, but never perceiving.” He warned them that the people’s heart has become calloused, AND THEY HAVE STOPPED UP THEIR EARS AND CLOSED THEIR EYES. (verses 26-27. Isaiah 6:9-10. Matthew 13:13-15.)
You see, the people were quite content with their own religious ways. (Matthew 7:21-23. 15:8-9.) So, they deliberately closed their eyes and ears to God’s good news. “Otherwise”, God says, “… they might see … hear … understand … and turn, and I would heal them”. Paul said to them, “God’s Salvation has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will listen.” (verse 27-28.)
Don’t YOU be corrupted by that self-inflicted epidemic! OPEN your eyes, and ears, and understanding to the love of God for you, and TURN to Him.
The Jewish Messiah has come as the Saviour of the world – Jews and Gentiles. Turn to Him now in faith and receive God’s great Salvation. (John 4:42. Matthew 23:37-39.)
